About SLD in the news
Hello, My name is Matt. I have launched SLD in the news to be an independent, highly visisble voice for Australians to discuss Specific Learning Disability issues. If SLD are a part of your work or personal life, then I want to hear from you! My ambition for the site is that:
- Those with SLD can use it to make contact and get help from people, associations and organisations;
- Academics, associations and organisations will use the site to disseminate information on events, courses, new research, assistive technologies etc; and
- Teachers and Tutors will use it to share ideas and approaches which have been successful in addressing SLD.
Of all these groups of people, it is the 'Front Line' which I would like to hear from the most. The 'Front Line' as I see it are:
- those with SLD; and in the case of kids
- their Parents or Carers; and
- their Teachers.
I truly hope that you will use this site to share your experiences, ask questions, seek, and find advice. Looking beyond the existing SLD News, Sites and Videos services, I would like to provide:
- a Diary Dates page, containing a list of upcoming SLD conferences, events etc from all around Australia;
- a Teachers Lounge, where teachers could share ideas, approaches and experiences via an online bulletin board;
- a Soap Box, where you could get something off your chest (anonymously if you would like), or try to rally people to your cause; and
- a Notice Board page where Parents and Tutors can put in requests for, or offers of help.
If you find SLD in the news useful and would like to see it continue and expand, please contact me and let me know your thoughts.
From early 2002 until June 2007 I have worked with both SPELD NSW and AUSPELD on a number of projects including the SPELD NSW Online Assessment (which, by the way, I have recently re-developed and is FREE at present - normally requires membership! Give it a go!), and the Teachers Skills Package.
